And, well, you see, tawghasa challenged me to write a new chapter of fic every day for a month and I can’t back down from a challenge (okay that might be a lie). So I thought I’d share it with you.
Something about Hell or Angels, an Avengers/Supernatural fusion fic
Clint is the King of Hell. Coulson is the hunter sent to take him down.

I think it’s kinda funny that mostly, fandom (including me) has him worshiping his bow like it’s his baby, and he’s just like runrunrun *toss*
Of course, when I mentioned that to Maquis Leader, she did point out that a) it’s not his usual bow, and b) we did see him whack the crap outta some Chitauri with his recurve in the Avengers.
I have to admit, I wince slightly every time I watch Clint whack something with his bow. It’s the latent archer in me because dude, I’d never do that to my bow. NEVER.
Except, I’m assuming his recurve isn’t a standard recurve. Or even a particularly realistic recurve, considering the poundage it should probably have and its collapsible nature. So I’m assuming it can also take a hell of a lot more punishment than my bow without damaging the limbs so badly it can’t shoot straight.
So, that’s my headcanon. Clint loves and worships his bow but he’s a fighter and a realist: his bow is designed to take that kind of punishment so he uses it :-D
Also, in the scene above he’s using a compound bow. Which has some fairly major differences from a recurve and can probably take a fair bit of throwing around without problems.
When he’s doing his sniper/assassin thing he uses a compound bow. It can be held at full draw for a while, perfect for making that precise shot, and that’s why he’s got the compound up in the crane. It can also be stored strung (hell, you never unstring a compound unless you need to replace the strong because woah) so for sneaking and out of places with a case under his arm and a bow ready assembled it would be perfect.
When he’s going to need to take shots quickly or fight, it’s the recurve. Not great for holding at full draw for a while, but if he’s trying to take multiple fast shots and move around and all the other things we see him do in the Avengers, it’s perfect. That’s what it’s designed for, after all, where the compound is of more use in hunting.
Oh god, I have bow headcanons. This fandom :-D
So I have to ask…have you read “Making the Best of It” by dentalfloss? It’s one of my all time favorite fics and it has Clint using his recurve as a sword.
I haven’t, but I have a feeling it’s in my “to be read” collection on my Kindle.
I may need to move that up the reading list just to find out whether I love it or wince at bow as sword shenanigans :-D
